Welcome

Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you!  And also with you!

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,

Praise him all creatures here below,

Praise him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Amen

Call to Worship:   Psalm 84:1-5

Leader:  How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!

Congregation: My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

Leader:  Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts,  my King and my God.

Congregation:  Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!

ALL:  Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

Songs of Praise:

Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down (Dave Doherty, 1980)

Come, let us worship and bow down,

Let us kneel before the Lord, our God, our Maker.

Come, let us worship and bow down,

Let us kneel before the Lord, our God, our Maker.

For He—is our God, and we are the people of his pasture,

And the sheep of his hand, just the sheep of his hand.

(Repeat all twice)

One Pure and Holy Passion (Mark Altrogge, 1988 CCLI Song #270224)

Give me one pure and holy passion,

And give me one magnificent obsession;

Give me one glorious ambition for my life:

To know and follow hard after you.
(Repeat)

Chorus:

To know and follow hard after you, to grow as your disciple in the truth.

This world is empty, pale and poor, compared to knowing you my Lord;

Lead me on and I will run after you,

Lead me on and I will run after you.

Give me one pure and holy passion,

And give me one magnificent obsession;

Give me one glorious ambition for my life:

To know and follow hard after you.

Chorus:

To know and follow hard after you, to grow as your disciple in your truth.

This world is empty, pale and poor, compared to knowing you my Lord;

Lead me on and I will run after you,

Lead me on and I will run after you (Repeat Chorus)

Tag: Lead me on and I will run after you.

Be Enthroned (Jeremy Riddle, Brian Mark Johnson, Hunter Thompson, Kalley Anne Heiligenthal, 2015 CCLI #7054178)

We’ve come to join the song
Sung long before our lives
To raise our voice along
Heaven and earth alike

We’ve seen Your faithful hand
Your mercy without end
And a King who bled and died
A God who sacrificed

And be enthroned upon the praises of
A thousand generations
You are worthy, Lord of all
And unto You, the slain and risen King
We lift our voice with Heaven
Singing worthy, Lord of all (Lord of all)

All through this life we lead
And on to eternity
Our endless praise we cry
And Jesus be glorified (2X)

Jesus be glorified

Be enthroned upon the praises of
A thousand generations
You are worthy, Lord of all
And unto You, the slain and risen King
We lift our voice with Heaven
Singing worthy, Lord of all (2X)

And highest praises, Lord of all
Highest praises, Lord of all (4X)

Be enthroned upon the praises of
A thousand generations
You are worthy, Lord of all
And unto You, the slain and risen King
We lift our voice with Heaven
Singing worthy, Lord of all

Singing worthy, Lord of all

Singing worthy, Lord of all

Confession/Assurance    Psalm 103:1-14

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity,

who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.  The Lord works righteousness

and justice for all who are oppressed.  He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.  He will not always chide,

nor will he keep his anger forever.  He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west,

so far does he remove our transgressions from us.  As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

Respond in Praise:

Nothing But the Blood (Robert Lowry, 1876)

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Chorus: O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;

No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone—nothing but the blood of Jesus;

naught of good that I have done—nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Chorus)

This is all my hope and peace—nothing but the blood of Jesus;

this is all my righteousness—nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Chorus 2X)

Scripture Reading:   1 Thessalonians 2:8-20

So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.

For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.   You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers.   For you know how, like a father with his children,  we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.

And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.   For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. For you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all mankind by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved—so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last!

But since we were torn away from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face, because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan hindered us.   For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?  For you are our glory and joy.

This is the Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God!

Sermon:   As A Father”

Hymn of Dedication

Purify My Heart (Refiner’s Fire) (Brian Doerksen, 1990)

Purify my heart, let me be as gold and precious silver

Purify my heart, let me be as gold, pure gold

Chorus: Refiner’s fire, my heart’s one desire is to be holy

Set apart for you, Lord

I choose to be holy, set apart for you, my Master

Ready to do your will

Purify my heart, cleanse me from within and make me holy

Purify my heart, cleanse me from my sin, deep within (Chorus 2X)

Tag: Ready to do your will, I am ready to do your will

Special congregation song

Blest Be the Tie That Binds (John Fawcett, 1782)

Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
Our comforts and our cares.

When we are called to part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.  Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving

Take My Life, and Let it Be (Frances Havergal, 1874; tune Henri Malan, 1827)

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise,

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of the thy love.

Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee,

Swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing, always, only, for my King.

Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from thee,

filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.

Take my intellect, and use ev’ry pow’r as thou shalt choose,

ev’ry pow’r as thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart, it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne,

it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure-store.

Take my self, and I will be ever, only, all for thee, ever, only, all for thee.

Benediction
