Welcome

Passing of the Peace: Though we are separated by distance our hearts are one in Christ. The peace of Christ be with you!  And also with you!

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,

Praise him all creatures here below,

Praise him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Amen

Call to Worship:   Psalm 84:1-5

Leader:  How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!

Congregation:  My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

Leader:  Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.

Congregation:  Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!

ALL:  Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

Songs of Praise:

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name (Edward Perronet, 1779; tune Oliver Holden, 1793)

All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all;

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.

Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race, ye ransomed of the fall,

Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all;

Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.

Let every kindred, every tribe, on this terrestrial ball

To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all;

To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all.

O that with yonder sacred throng we at his feet may fall;

We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all;

We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.

I Believe in Jesus (Marc Nelson, 1987  CCLI #61282)

I believe in Jesus, I believe He is the Son of God.

I believe He died and rose again, I believe He paid for us all.

And I believe that He’s here now, standing in our midst,

here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

I believe in Jesus, I believe He is the Son of God.

I believe He died and rose again, I believe He paid for us all.

And I believe that He’s here now, standing in our midst,

here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

I believe in You, Lord, I believe You are the Son of God

I believe You died and rose again, I believe You paid for us all.

And I believe that You’re here now, standing in our midst,

here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive,

here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

I Will Trust in You (Renee Allsbrook)

You are the Potter who formed me, I rest in your hands;

You’re the Shepherd who leads me, my pathway is planned.

You’re the God of all hope who dispels every fear;

I’m safe in your everlasting arms.

Chorus:

When I am afraid, I will trust in you,

I will quiet down my heart, knowing all your words are true.

You draw near each time I cry out your name;

Help my heart to trust in you,

Teach my heart to trust in you.

You are the One who redeemed me, with life in your hands;

In your robes, here I spotless and radiant stand.

Though all others forsake me, your courage is mine;

You’ve overcome the darkness with your light! (Chorus)

You are the Whisper of wisdom and peace deep within;

As I listen, you give me a distaste for sin.

You’re my constant companion, I’m never alone;

Wash over me and fill my soul with you. (Chorus)

Respond in Praise:  Musical Offering –  Roberta Edwards

Thank You Jesus, for the Blood

(Charity Gayle)

Intro:

I was a wretch
I remember who I was
I was lost, I was blind
I was running out of time

Sin separated
The breach was far too wide
But from the far side of the chasm
You held me in your sight

So You made a way
Across the great divide
Left behind Heaven’s throne
To build it here inside

And there at the cross
You paid the debt I owed
Broke my chains, freed my soul
For the first time I had hope

Chorus:

Thank you Jesus, for the blood applied
Thank you Jesus, it has washed me white
Thank you Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into

glorious light

You took my place
Laid inside my tomb of sin
You were buried for three days
But then You walked right out again

And now death has no sting
And life has no end
For I have been transformed
By the blood of the Lamb

Chorus:

Thank you Jesus for the blood applied
Thank You Jesus, it has washed me white
Thank You Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into

glorious light

Bridge:

There is nothing stronger
Than the wonder working power of the blood,

the blood
That calls us sons and daughters
We are ransomed by our Father through

the blood, the blood

There is nothing stronger
Oh the wonder working power of the blood,

the blood
That calls us sons and daughters
We are ransomed by the Father through

the blood, the blood

Chorus:

Thank You Jesus, for the blood applied
Thank You Jesus, it have washed me white

Thank You Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into

glorious light

Glory to His name
Glory to His name
There to my heart was the blood applied
Glory to His name

Scripture Reading:    Matthew 19:1-12

Teaching About Divorce

19 Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” 4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” 7 They said to him, “Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?” 8 He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”[a]

10 The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” 11 But he said to them, “Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. 12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.”

This is the Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God!

Hymn of Dedication

Amazing Love (You Are My King) (Billy James Foote, 1999)

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken

I’m accepted, You were condemned

I’m alive and well, Your Spirit is within me

Because You died and rose again (Repeat, first time only)

Chorus:

Amazing love, how can it be,

That You my King would die for me?

Amazing love, I know it’s true—

It’s my joy to honor You;

In all I do, I honor You.

(Repeat all)

You—are my King

Jesus, You—are my King

Jesus, You—are my King

Jesus, You—are my King

Chorus:

Amazing love, how can it be,

That You my King would die for me?

Amazing love, I know it’s true—

It’s my joy to honor You;

In all I do, I honor You,

In all I do, I honor You,

In all I do, I honor You.

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.  Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving

Be Still, My Soul (Katharina von Schlegel, 1752; tune, Jean Sibelius, 1899)

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side;

Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;

Leave to your God to order and provide;

In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul: your best, your heav’nly Friend

Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: your God will undertake

to guide the future as he has the past.

Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;

All now mysterious shall be bright at last.

Be still, my soul: the waves and winds sill know

His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still my soul: the hour is hast’ning on

When we shall be forever with the Lord,

When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,

Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,

All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Benediction
