Amen

Songs of Praise:

All Who Are Thirsty (Brenton Brown, Glenn Robertson, 1998; CCLI #2489542)

All who are thirsty, all who are weak,

Come to the fountain, dip your heart in the stream of life.

Let the pain and the sorrow be washed away

In the waves of his mercy, as deep cries out to deep:

We sing, “Come, Lord Jesus, come; Come, Lord Jesus, come.”

(Repeat)

“Holy Spirit, come; Holy Spirit, come.”

You Have Been Good (Twila Paris, 1988; CCLI #59452)

Oh Lord, You have been good,

You have been faithful to all generations.

Oh Lord, your steadfast love

and tender mercy have been our salvation.

For by your hand (for by your hand)—we have been fed (we have been fed),

And by your Spirit—we have been led. (Repeat all)

Oh Lord, Almighty God, Father unchanging, upright and holy,

Oh Lord, you have been good, you have been faithful, you have been good.

For by your hand (for by your hand)—we have been fed (we have been fed),

And by your Spirit—we have been led.

Oh Lord, you have been good, you have been faithful, you have been good.

You have been faithful, you have been good,

You have been faithful, you have been good.

Living Waters (Ed Cash, Kristyn Gettys; CCLI #7063743)

Are you thirsty? Are you empty?

Come and drink these Living Waters.

Tired and broken, peace unspoken,

Rest beside these Living Waters.

Christ is calling: Find refreshing

At the cross of Living Waters.

Lay your life down, all the old gone:

Rise up in these Living Waters.

Chorus: There’s a river that flows with mercy and love,

Bringing joy to the city of our God;

There our hope is secure, do not fear anymore.

Praise the Lord of Living Waters!

Spirit moving, mercy washing,

Healing in these Living Waters.

Lead your children to the shoreline,

Life is in these Living Waters (Chorus)

Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:37)

Are you thirsty? Are you empty?

Come and drink these Living Waters

Love, Forgiveness—vast and boundless—

Christ, He is our Living Waters (Chorus)

Chorus: There’s a river that flows with mercy and love,

Bringing joy to the city of our God;

There our hope is secure, do not fear anymore:

Praise the Lord of Living Waters!

There our hope is secure, do not fear anymore:

Praise the Lord of Living Waters!

Confession/Assurance

Respond in Praise:

May the Mind of Christ My Savior (Kate Wilkinson, 1925; tune A. Cyril Barham-Gould, 1925)

May the mind of Chirst my Savior live in me from day to day,

by his love and power controlling all I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour,

so that all may see I triumph only through his power.

May the peace of God my Father rule my life in everything,

that I may be calm to comfort sick and sorrowing.

May the peace of God my Father rule my life in everything,

him exalting, self abasing, this is victory.

May his beauty rest upon my as I seek the lost to win,

and may they forget the channel, seeing only him.

Scripture Reading:    Matthew 17: 24-27

The Temple Tax

24 When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” 25 He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” 26 And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. 27 However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel.   Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”

This is the Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God!

Sermon:  “Receiving an Exemption”

Hymn of Dedication

Glorify Your Name (Donna Adkins, 1976; CCLI #1383)

Father, we love you, we worship and adore you.

Glorify thy name in all the earth.

Glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth!

Jesus, we love you, we worship and adore you.

Glorify thy name in all the earth.

Glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth!

Spirit, we love you, we worship and adore you.

Glorify thy name in all the earth.

Glorify thy name, glorify thy name, glorify thy name in all the earth!

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.  Amen

Hymn of Thanksgiving

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less (Edward Mote, 1834; tune William Bradbury, 1863)

1.My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.

2.When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace;

in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. (Chorus)

3.His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood;

when all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. (Chorus)

4.When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found:

dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. (Chorus)

Benediction
